Abstract
In this study, ytterbium-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Y3YbxFe5-xO₁₂) nanostructures were synthesized via the sol–gel method with different substitution amounts of ytterbium ions The structural, morphological, magnetic, and dielectric properties of the samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, and an LCR meter. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns, no impurity phase was detected in the ytterbium-substituted samples with a substitution amount of whereas with further substitution of the amount an impurity phase of appeared in the samples, indicating that represents the solubility limit of Yb in the YIG lattice. Analysis of the magnetic hysteresis loop showed that, with increasing Yb substitution, the saturation magnetization increased and reached its maximum value of at the substitution amount after which it began to decrease. Moreover, the coercivity and magnetic remanence exhibited a decreasing trend with ytterbium substitution. On the other hand, Yb substitution led to a reduction in the dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and AC electrical conductivity of the samples.
